The preparation of the future strategic priorities of the European Union, brought together in the Strategic Agenda 2024–2029, started in October 2023 at an informal summit in Granada. In early April, European Council President Michel held a new round of consultations with leaders in Vilnius, Bucharest, Warsaw and Vienna, with a view to the European Council adopting the Strategic Agenda at its meeting in June this year. The Agenda is aimed at reaching a common goal – a strong, secure, prosperous and democratic European Union.

Slovenia agrees with the proposed directions, as the EU needs to maintain unity, solidarity, prosperity and social cohesion in the face of increasing geopolitical challenges. It also stresses the importance of strengthening the competitiveness of the European economy and of the enlargement of the European Union and the related reforms. At the consultation in Vienna, Prime Minister Golob stressed that the European Union can only effectively address the current security, climate, migration, economic and social challenges, including problems in the agricultural sector, by acting more decisively together.
