State Secretary Štucin at Diplomacy Forum: 'We need to strengthen trust at global level'

State Secretary Marko Štucin participated in the third Antalya Diplomacy Forum on 1–3 March 2024, held under the theme "Advancing Diplomacy in Times of Turmoil". In his address to the panel, he stressed that to successfully meet global challenges head on, especially in diplomacy, we need to be able to talk and seek consensus. He also held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Forum.

State Secretary Marko Štucin was one of the speakers at the debate entitled "A New Agenda for Peace: Shift of Paradigm toward Peace?", where the panellists discussed the differences in security perceptions at the conceptual level, the rebuilding of trust at the global level, and ways to strengthen preventive diplomacy and the peaceful settlement of disputes. "We are facing the greatest number of conflicts in the last 100 years. Today's power relations need to be re-examined, not least with a view to improving decision-making processes in conflict resolution. International law demands our strong support, which can only be achieved through the effective functioning of international organisations, as well as through sufficient funding for institutions such as the International Criminal Court," State Secretary Štucin said.

The third Antalya Diplomacy Forum will focus on how to make better use of diplomacy to tackle global challenges of the current international environment. It will focus on the adoption of a novel understanding of diplomacy, beyond its essential and traditional framework of dialogue. The Forum is held under the patronage of the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and on the initiative of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the sidelines of the Forum, State Secretary Štucin met separately with Turkish deputy foreign ministers Mehmet Kemal Bozay and Burak Akçapar, as well as with Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Chief Foreign Policy and Security Adviser to the President of Türkiye. The interlocutors called for the strengthening of the strategic partnership and discussed concrete plans to enhance political and bilateral relations, the revitalisation of EU-Türkiye relations, the European integration of the Western Balkans, with a focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina, and topical regional issues.

State Secretary Štucin also held a number of other bilateral meetings, including with Montenegrin Foreign Minister Filip Ivanović, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Tochytskyi, Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia, World Food Programme (WFP) Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau, and the Honorary Consul of Slovenia in Antalya, Sedat Peker.
