State Secretary Štucin in Podgorica pledges Slovenia's continued support for Montenegro on its EU path

During his visit to Podgorica, State Secretary Marko Štucin met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Filip Ivanović, Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević, and Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro Oana Cristina Popa. He held political consultations with Milisav Raspopović, State Secretary at the Montenegrin Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to bilateral relations, the two state secretaries discussed Montenegro's European path, current European issues and Slovenia's membership of the UN Security Council.

They agreed that Slovenia and Montenegro enjoy very positive relations and maintain an extensive political dialogue, as demonstrated by regular bilateral visits and meetings at all levels.

Their talks focused on EU enlargement, with State Secretary Štucin reaffirming Slovenia's continued support and assistance to Montenegro in adapting to European standards. "In the current geopolitical situation, it is vital to provide Montenegro and other countries in the region with a clear European perspective. This is key to ensuring stability in the Western Balkans. We therefore welcome the new government's plans to accelerate the implementation of reforms, in particular with regard to chapters 23 and 24 of the EU accession negotiations", State Secretary Štucin underlined.

State Secretary Raspopović presented the government's achievements so far and its plans for reforms in the context of Montenegro's plans to start closing individual negotiation chapters.
