Prime Minister: The solidarity and unity that guided us 33 years ago have remained to this day

The Prime Minister, Robert Golob, hosted today a holiday reception for the relatives of the fallen soldiers of the Slovenian War of Independence, the defence and security structures of the Republic of Slovenia and representatives of veterans' organisations.

At the end of the year, we remember the time when we gained our independence, a difficult but exciting time, challenging but full of hope: “Those of you who lost loved ones paid the price for all of us, so it is important that you are in the spotlight at this magical time,” said Prime Minister Golob, adding, “We have not forgotten the fallen in the war for Slovenia. Your sacrifices will remain forever etched in our memories – national and personal.” The Prime Minister pledged that all structures would work through the talks to find solutions to make reparation for the sacrifices they had “made on the altar of our homeland.”

Slovenia is today a safe country in an increasingly dangerous world. “The security of our citizens is a top priority for this government,” the Prime Minister stressed, adding that a trained police and army form an important pillar, even in the event of natural disasters.

He took the opportunity to thank the members of the armed forces and the police for their selfless assistance in the face of natural disasters. “Last year in the Karst region and this year in a large part of Slovenia, we were able to witness the solidarity and unity that guided us 33 years ago and that have remained among the people to this day,” the Prime Minister underlined.

He concluded by wishing everyone a peaceful and harmonious holiday season: “I hope that we enter the New Year even more united for the good of our homeland. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
