The conversation, which took place at the end of the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU, focused on EU's current topics. The attendees dedicated special attention to issues that will be addressed at the European Council's meeting, such as EU enlargement (including in connection with the EU's internal reforms), the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the revision of the multiannual financial framework.

Among other things, the Prime Minister highlighted the fact that the enlargement process for the trio consisting of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, as well as for the Western Balkans, is in EU's geostrategic interest. He stated this development is part of the EU's investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity. Slovenia supports the start of negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, and the granting of candidate status to Georgia. In addition, the Prime Minister noted that in the current situation the Western Balkans also needs to see some positive news, which is why Slovenia is advocating for the formal launch of accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina at the European Council meeting in December. The Prime Minister sent a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, a month ago, addressing this issue.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the urgent need for EU leaders to agree on the revision of the EU multiannual financial framework, noting that adequate additional funds must be provided for both providing financial assistance to Ukraine and for other priority areas, especially the financing of the EU Solidarity Fund. In this context he noted that Europe has been increasingly dealing with extensive natural disasters, including the one that affected Slovenia this past August.
