The reconstruction of the central hospital in Izyum, Harkiv region, is one of the Foundation's priorities and its largest infrastructure project. In March 2022, the first and second floors of the hospital were completely destroyed by an artillery shell. 140,000 patients were left without medical care and the area was mined. The Olena Zelenska Foundation is a Ukrainian charity organisation founded by the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska. It is supported by a large number of countries, international banks and organisations, and individuals.

The donation is part of Slovenia's continued humanitarian aid in 2023 to help address the global consequences of the war in Ukraine. In addition, Slovenia has provided financial support to the projects of the Ministry's strategic partner for emergency humanitarian aid, Caritas Slovenia. Among other things, the strategic partner has helped renovate the centre for disabled youth in Zhytomyr, which is scheduled to open on 8 December 2023. Slovenia has also made contributions to international organisations to address urgent humanitarian needs in the field of health, medicines and medical equipment, and to the “Grain from Ukraine” initiative to alleviate the world food crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. By the end of the year, Slovenia will have committed EUR 1.5 million to support humanitarian mine action, as announced at international conferences throughout the year.

To help mitigate the consequences of the war in Ukraine, Slovenia has nearly doubled its humanitarian aid funding this year.
