"Today’s meeting with all parliamentary parties showed that even politicians can show a united front, when we need to," said the Prime Minister after the meeting. He stressed that he wished for political unity to last for as long as possible and that the upcoming recovery would set an example for future generations.

After the meeting, Mr Golob also said that the heads of parliamentary parties exchanged views regarding, in particular, the range of assistance measures. "I believe that we are very much in agreement, including with the opinions of the opposition," he said, adding that good suggestions would be included in the intervention Act to alleviate the consequences of floods. According to him, this will make the Act "even better". The Government’s aim is for measures to enter into force in September.

Measures for alleviating the consequences of floods were divided into two phases: the first one encompassed emergency measures, which will now be followed by a special recovery Act.

The key message of the meeting was political unity for the good of the people of Slovenia, for which both the coalition and the opposition came together in a show of constructive cooperation. They agree that the measures must be quick, targeted and effective.
