Blockchain technology for Climate Change

The Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sports announced a partnership with the Dubai World Trade Center, more specifically Summit for the Future of Blockchain Technology as part of the largest global technology exhibition GITEX Global and COP28.

The largest global technology exhibition focusing on advanced digital technologies, GITEX Global, will be held in Dubai from 15 to 18 October 2023, boasting 170,000 visitors. As part of GITEX Global, the "Future Blockchain Summit" (Summit for the future of blockchain) and GITEX Impact (the impact of advanced digital technologies for a green transition). Slovenia will be presented within the framework of GITEX Global, at which SPIRIT Slovenia will hold a joint presentation of Slovenia in the field of advanced of digital technologies in cooperation with The Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport, and the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia and in partnership with Future Blockchain Summit, which is the main organizer behind GITEX Global.

The Ministry will be in partnership with the Dubai World Trade Center - Future Blockchain Summit, which was announced on June 8, 2023, as part of the press conference "Blockchain technology for effective climate action" hosted by the Climate Chain Coalition at the United nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bonn, Germany. As part of the partnership, there will also be activities for the co-design and implementation of the program in the Slovenian pavilion at EXPO City Dubai during COP28, as part of a three-day program that will be held from 5 to 7 December 2023.

At the upcoming Future Blockchain Summit, leading Slovenian companies in this field will have the opportunity to present their innovative projects, as well as numerous opportunities for networking access to the market of the Middle East North Africa region and also globally. Also, as part of the Future Blockchain Summit, Slovenian companies will have the opportunity to pitch their projects to obtain funding for growth as part of the Supernova Challenge and the Investors Program & Forum.

GITEX Impact, a high-tech trade fair and forum of advanced digital technologies for the green transition, is another the activity within GITEX Global, as an introduction to COP28. The program we are preparing together with the Future Blockchain Summit will show how advanced digital technologies focusing on blockchain will contribute to the achievement of the green and digital transition and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Blockchain for Climate Action, in which the Climate Chain Coalition is involved, it is spearheading the IAAI GloCha DigitalArt4Climate, a global art competition starting in August. Artwork presented in this competition will be transformed into digital funds in the form of fungible tokens (NFTs) that people will be able to collect and use for innovative resource mobilization for local and youth climate action.

The DigitalArt4Climate/NFT artworks and educational entertainment hub will be on display at the GITEX Impact and Future Blockchain Summit and the COP28 Digital Innovation Pavilion. The initiative will show how this kind of technology can influence innovative learning about climate action and the development of digital skills, which are much needed for wider sustainable economic development and (green) job creation.
