Meeting between the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State of the Holy See

Prime Minister Robert Golob met for the second time with the Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin. In Koper, they discussed the situation in the Western Balkans, with a focus on Kosovo and the war in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister thanked the Holy See for its support in Slovenia’s campaign to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Dr Golob and Secretary of State Parolin committed themselves to constructive cooperation in the period 2024–2025 when Slovenia will be a non-permanent member of the highest UN body. In particular, they see opportunities for cooperation in promoting solidarity, social equality, peace and the fight against climate change.

Dr Golob also informed Secretary of State Parolin that he had a State Secretary in his Cabinet responsible for the dialogue between Church and State. This is Vojko Volk, State Secretary for International Affairs.

Prime Minister Golob and the Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin met for the first time last December when the Prime Minister visited the Vatican.
