Political consultations with Bosnia and Herzegovina

State Secretary Marko Štucin and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Brkić held bilateral political consultations in Ljubljana. The consultations focused on Bosnia and Herzegovina's path towards Europe and the necessity to implement reforms to open accession negotiations with the EU.

They reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed the future cooperation agenda of both diplomatic sides. The interlocutors agreed that the relations between the two countries are very good and traditionally friendly.

State Secretary Štucin reiterated Slovenia's continued political support to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards the membership in the European Union and NATO. He called upon Bosnia and Herzegovina to improve on its candidate status by accelerating the implementation of the reforms needed to open accession negotiations with the European Union. “Slovenia stands ready to provide practical assistance in areas where Bosnia and Herzegovina wants it and where we have the necessary skills and capabilities,” the State Secretary stressed.

They also discussed the situation in the region and its EU perspective. “We expect our partners in the region to promote the values of the European Union, including the alignment with the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union,” added State Secretary Štucin.
