Minister Fajon in Koper on establishing international links for the city and port

Minister Tanja Fajon was in Koper today for talks with the Mayor of Koper, Aleš Bržan, and the management of the Port of Koper. The visit took place just a few days ahead of her departure for Vietnam (21–23 May) in the company of a ten-strong business delegation that includes the Port of Koper, and for Indonesia. She will also visit the Republic of Korea in June.

"As we heard at the meeting with the Port of Koper management, 65% of the total traffic of the Port goes to and from Asia, so the support of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in entering Asian markets is very welcome. I am delighted that the Port of Koper will be part of the business delegation to Vietnam and possibly South Korea. The Port is a recognised partner abroad and important for foreign policy activities and economic diplomacy in this area," the Minister said during her visit. At the meeting, President of the Management Board of the Port of Koper Boštjan Napast outlined the Port's business activities, with a special focus on the Green Transport Initiative and the company's efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

Mayor of Koper Aleš Bržan briefed Minister Fajon on the challenges facing the municipality. They agreed that Slovenia’s good neighbourly relations with Croatia and Italy are vital for Koper. They later discussed the opportunities for establishing links between Koper and foreign municipalities. In this context, the Minister offered support of the Slovenian diplomatic service aimed at establishing and strengthening international contacts.
