State Secretary Dr. Benedejčič on a visit to Slovakia

State Secretary for National and International Security Dr. Andrej Benedejčič paid a visit today in Bratislava to the Director of the Office of the Security Council of the Slovak Republic Mr. Pavel Franko.

As Secretaries of the National Security Councils of both countries, they exchanged views regarding current challenges faced by Slovenia and Slovakia. Special attention was paid to the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the aid that both countries have provided to the Ukrainian side. They exchanged as well experience with the work of both National Security Councils and discussed possibilities for deepening their cooperation.

Since last year, the biggest contingent of the Slovenian Armed Forces abroad is located in Slovakia, in the framework of NATO's enhanced Vigilance Activities (eVA). State Secretary Dr. Benedejčič therefore emphasized the determination of the Slovenian side to continue actively contributing to the strengthening of the defense and deterrence posture on the eastern flank of the Alliance. He also highlighted the importance of NATO crisis management exercises, such as the recent CMX 2023.

During his visit to Slovakia State Secretary Dr. Benedejčič also met with the Slovak Foreign Minister H. E. Mr. Rastislav Káčer, the State Secretary of the Slovak Defense Ministry Mr. Marian Majer and the State Secretary of the Slovak Interior Ministry Mr. Tomáš Oparty. With them he addressed bilateral cooperation in the area of defense and security, exchanged views on the situation in the Western Balkans and discussed the issue of migration.
