State Secretary Dr. Benedejčič underllined that the State Partnership Program, which was launched in 1993, helped Slovenia in capability development and in achieving interoperability. As such, it was also important for Slovenian entry into NATO in 2004. Slovenia's relations with Colorado therefore have implications that go beyond bilateral defense cooperation with the United States.

Slovenia looks forward to continued cooperation with the Colorado National Guard. It is important to build on the joint experience from ISAF operation in Afghanistan with regular participation in exercises such as the Adriatic Strike and Triglav Star. Slovenia also appreciates the exchange of expertise in the area of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense, especially in light of current security challenges.
