Dr. Emilija Stojmenova Duh is entrusted with the Chairmanship of the World Summit on the Information Society

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is the most important global event on the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on the development of society.

WSIS is organised annually by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as well as several other United Nations agencies.

This year's forum, which focuses on the WSIS Action Lines for building back better and accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, is taking place in Geneva from 13 to 17 March.

Our commitment to the inclusive development of the information society has led to the awarding of this year's WSIS Chairmanship to Dr Emilija Stojmenova Duh, Minister of Digital Transformation. "I am honoured that Slovenia has been entrusted with such an important role and that I will be the first woman minister to chair the World Summit on the Information Society. This is, among other things, a recognition of all the work in the field of digitisation that Slovenian experts are doing excellently. We often take excellence for granted, so it is always good to be noticed and recognised abroad," said Minister Dr Stojmenova Duh.

The chairmanship of the Forum rotates annually among all five regions. Minister will chair the Opening Segment, High-Level Dialogues, a series of High-Level Policy Sessions, a Ministerial round table, and will also present the WSIS Prizes.

The WSIS Forum provides an opportunity for information sharing, knowledge creation and exchange of best practices, while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships in the context of evolving information and knowledge societies. It consists of different segments divided mostly into the Forum Track and the  High-Level Track.

The closing session of the High-Level Track will take place on 15 March 2023. It will include a summary by the WSIS 2023 Chairperson, and the final product will be a publication entitled "WSIS Forum 2023: Policy Statements and Executive Brief", which will capture the outcomes of the different High-Level Track Sessions.
