The two agreed on the need to strengthen the competitiveness of European industry, in particular in the face of rising energy prices, the green and digital transition and competition from third countries. The transformation of the labour market makes it essential to strengthen and upgrade workers' skills, which must be a key focus for countries. Accordingly, the European Commission has already proposed to make 2023 the European Year of Skills. The Prime Minister and the Commissioner drew particular attention to the labour shortages in EU countries, including Slovenia. The Commissioner confirmed that the Commission was considering various solutions, including strengthening legal migration for the required labour profiles.
