Government adopts the Act Amending the Criminal Code

At today’s correspondence session, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia laid down the text of the Act Amending the Criminal Code and is forwarding it for discussion to the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia by summary procedure.

The amendments are necessary to align the Code with the following EU directives:

  • Directive (EU) 2011/36 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 April 2011 on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and protecting its victims, and replacing Council Framework Decision 2002/629/JHA,
  • Directive (EU) 2017/1371 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 July 2017 on the fight against fraud to the Union's financial interests by means of criminal law.
  • Directive (EU) 2017/541 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 March 2017 on combating terrorism and replacing Council Framework Decision 2002/475/JHA and amending Council Decision 2005/671/JHA.
  • Directive (EU) 2014/57 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 April 2014 on criminal sanctions for market abuse.

In addition to the above, the draft act also ensures alignment with the last of four recommendations by the MONEYVAL committee of the Council of Europe, from the fifth cycle of evaluations of the Republic of Slovenia in the field of preventing and combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
