Minister Logar's talks with Brazilian Foreign Minister França

Foreign Minister Anže Logar telephoned Carlos Alberto Franco França, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil. Minister Logar recalled the 30th anniversary of Brazil's recognition of Slovenia and of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which will be marked this year.

The Minister went on to express his satisfaction with the level of bilateral and multilateral cooperation achieved, which is also a result of activities undertaken by Slovenian and Brazilian embassies in both capitals. He pointed to the regular political dialogue between the two countries on key bilateral and international issues and to the steady strengthening of economic cooperation. Today, the volume of trade between the two countries already exceeds the pre-pandemic figures. In this context, the two ministers called for continued regular meetings of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation, which also promotes cooperation on science and digitalisation.

Minister Logar underlined Slovenia’s support for strengthening the partnership between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean, where Brazil takes a special place as one of the two strategic partners of the EU in the region. The ministers also discussed the importance of collaboration between the EU and the association of the four Latin American Mercosur countries, which will be further deepened after the conclusion of the Association Agreement.

The two ministers went on to express satisfaction with their cooperation in international organisations. The two countries are close partners in the United Nations, and their relations are gaining additional ground following the launch of Brazil’s accession process in the OECD.

The high officials also exchanged views on Russian military aggression in Ukraine, with Minister Logar stressing the importance of condemning the Russian aggression within various international organisations.
