Today, Prime Minister Janez Janša presented a proposed act on the National Demographic Fund to the members of the Economic and Social Council.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the coalition he leads has succeeded in drafting a proposed act on the demographic fund after 15 years of discussions. The fund will include all state assets, with the exception of those subject to European restrictions and certain practical problems.

The management of the assets in the national fund is anticipated to yield returns, ensuring a long-term growth of assets in the fund.

Prime Minister Janez Janša also emphasised that the Act on the Demographic Fund observes social justice and pointed out that the discussion of the Act by the Economic and Social Council would take place simultaneously with the discussion of the Act as per the regular procedure in the National Assembly, whereby complying with the efficiency of debates and discussions without undue delays.

The economic and social partners highlighted that there had been enough inactivity in the field of demography and commended the dialogue that the Prime Minister instigated with them at today’s meeting.
