New coronavirus infection confirmed in a third person

Statements to the press have been delivered by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Simona Repar Bornšek, and Nina Pirnat, Director of the National Institute of Public Health.

The National Institute of Public Health identified 27 people who were in contact with the first person infected with the new coronavirus, and it followed the established protocols.

The first infected person, a male from Ljubljana about 60 years old, was in contact with 20 passengers, 16 of them Slovenians and three Croatians, said Nina Pirnat, Director of the Institute of Public Health at the press conference of the Ministry of Health. The infected person was on a 10-day motorcycle trip, and because of an injury suffered during the trip, he stayed in bed in his room for the last few days of the trip.

The Croatian side was informed of the situation, and so were all the passengers who were in close contact with the infected person. Swab tests were taken.

Seven people who were in contact with the patient at the Vič Health Care Centre were also treated and informed of the measures and instructions for self-observation. Furthermore, calls are coming from people who visited the emergency department at the Ljubljana University Medical Centre between 8 pm and 9.30 pm. So far, 30 calls have been received. They are being briefed on the situation and instructions are being given to them, was the information given at the conference. Information on swabs taken will be known in the evening.

The second person infected with the new coronavirus was in close contact with the first patient, and he was a travelling companion in Morocco.

The National Institute of Public Health is continuing its intensive epidemiological investigation, focused on seeking out people who were in contact with the infected person.

By 6 pm, 433 people had been tested for coronavirus infection. According to the latest information, the infection has been confirmed in three persons.
