Politične konzultacije na ravni generalnih direktorjev za zadeve EU med Slovenijo in Švico
- Ministrstvo za zunanje zadeve
Slovenia and Switzerland maintain excellent relations, underpinned by past and future meetings at the highest level. Bilateral trade between the countries has been strengthening since 2013, and Switzerland is an important foreign trade partner and investor for Slovenia.
Bilateral cooperation is reinforced by Slovenia's and Switzerland's participation in initiatives in the Alpine region: the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region, the Alpine Quadrilaterale (Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein at the level of deputy foreign ministers and department heads) and the Alpine Convention. The countries have established successful cooperation within international organisations, in the sphere of human rights and in cross-border water management, which significantly contributes to the preservation of international peace and security. Further potential for cooperation exists in the Western Balkan region.
The Directors General also exchanged views on current European issues, including the future of the EU, migration challenges, the Schengen Agreement, the enlargement process and the situation in the Western Balkans.
Director General Piffaretti outlined Switzerland's positions on future relations between his country and the EU as well as the second Swiss cohesion contribution.
