mag. Andreja Kokalj

Andreja Kokalj has gained professional experience in the judiciary, the research sector, local self-government and the wider public sector.

In 2016, she completed a postgraduate master’s programme in the Theory of Law and State at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana and obtained the title Master of Science. In the same year, she earned the title Master of Defence Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana. In 2017, she passed the professional examination for inspectors. In 2020, she obtained the certificate of competence for membership of supervisory boards or management boards of companies.

She has also been active in the non-governmental sector and remains a member of various associations. She has served as a member of several institution councils and as a member of a municipal supervisory committee.

Prior to her appointment as State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice, she was employed at the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption. For many years, she has been active as a mediator. She also served for several years as a lay judge at the Labour and Social Court in Ljubljana.

Since her appointment as State Secretary in March 2024, she has led and coordinated the preparation of key legislative solutions in the field of criminal and civil law, and has been responsible for interministerial coordination and dialogue with justice-sector stakeholders. Since November 2025, she has been serving as the Minister of Justice.
