Mihael Zupančič (born on 19 March 1973) graduated from the Faculty of Law at Sorbonne University in Paris in 1997 and, one year later, obtained a master’s degree in international administration (Master DESS Administration Internationale). He had his diploma recognised in Slovenia and obtained the title of university graduate in law.

He began his career in 1999 at the International Law Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he mainly worked on international treaties and human rights matters. He was also a member of teams responsible for preparing Slovenia's accession to the EU (the so-called screening process). From 2003 to 2010, he served at the Mission of the Republic of Slovenia to the European Union and, after EU accession, at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU. Until 2005, he worked as a legal advisor and, in this capacity, served as Slovenia’s representative in the working group tasked with preparing the Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe, while also covering working groups on justice. From 2005 until the end of Slovenia's first Presidency of the Council of the European Union, he was responsible for coordinating COREPER II (Antici) affairs at Slovenia’s Permanent Representation to the EU.

On his return to Slovenia, he became Head of the International Law Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held this position until 2015, when he was appointed Ambassador of Slovenia to Bucharest, Romania. After completing his term as ambassador in Romania, he served as Acting Director General of the International Law Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until March 2020, when he became Head of the Minister’s Office at the proposal of the Minister Anže Logar. In September 2022, he became Slovenia’s Ambassador to Denmark, with concurrent accreditation to Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland.
