Gašper Dovžan

Gašper Dovžan, MSc (born 16 September 1976), graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana in 2000 and obtained a master's degree in European Studies from Humboldt University in Berlin in 2002. He has also passed the State Bar Examination.

He began his professional career in 2000 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 2002 and 2004, he served as legal adviser to the Slovenian delegation at the Intergovernmental Conference on the Constitution for Europe, and later as adviser for international relations in the Office of the Prime Minister, where he was involved in Slovenia's Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2008.

Between 2014 and 2017, he served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Slovenian Embassy in Berlin. From 2017 to 2020, he worked in the Directorate for EU Affairs, where he was responsible for general and institutional EU matters.

In 2020, he was appointed State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responsible for European affairs, including the preparation and implementation of Slovenia's Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2021. During the Presidency, he chaired the General Affairs Council.

From June 2022 to June 2026, he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Croatia.

Prior to holding these positions, he also worked in economic diplomacy, at the Government Office for Legislation of the Republic of Slovenia and at Petrol d.d. He has occasionally lectured and published in the fields of constitutional law, EU law and human rights law.

He speaks English, German and Croatian.
