Barbara Levstik Šega

Barbara Levstik Šega, born in Ljubljana in 1983, completed her studies in economics at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana. She continued her education with a master's degree in the field of administrative law, writing her master's thesis on European citizenship and the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning the free movement of workers.

Before her appointment as State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice, she served as a Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia. Prior to that, she worked for almost two decades at the Ljubljana District Court, where she headed the Alternative Dispute Resolution Service from 2016 onwards.

At the Ministry of Justice, she took part as a lecturer in professional training programmes in the field of mediation and alternative dispute resolution, and contributed to the preparation of expert projects. Her work focused primarily on civil, commercial and family disputes. In 2023, she was appointed a member of the Council for Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Ministry of Justice.

For her work, she received an award from the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia and the Ministry of Justice for outstanding professional achievements, as well as an award from the Mediators' Association of Slovenia for her exceptional professional contribution to the development of alternative dispute resolution.

At the local level, she served as a municipal councillor and Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Loški Potok, where she contributed to the development of the local community and to strengthening ties between the local and national levels.

In her work, she emphasises professionalism, dialogue and the pursuit of effective solutions. She advocates an effective rule of law, an accessible and modern justice system, the strengthening of alternative dispute resolution, the effective prosecution of the most complex forms of economic crime, and the reduction of administrative burdens, while ensuring the balanced development of all Slovenian regions.
