Economic and Fiscal Policy Directorate
The tasks of the Economic and Fiscal Policy Directorate include the (co-)formulation of the overall fiscal policy and structural economic policy measures within the general government sector, as well as coordination with EU policies. In terms of content, this also involves cooperation with relevant domestic and international authorities, institutions, and credit rating agencies. The Directorate ensures the alignment of public finance policy with fiscal rules and is responsible for the preparation of the Medium-Term Fiscal-Structural Plan, the Annual Progress Report, and the Draft Budgetary Plan of the general government sector within the framework of the European Semester. The work also includes the preparation and review of public finance statistics, monitoring of public finance flows, and the preparation of consolidated accounts in accordance with international methodologies. Additionally, we prepare public finance projections, public debt sustainability analyses, and other assessments, as well as develop new models and analytical tools for evaluating policy impacts. The Directorate actively participates in various research projects. Based on available data, the Directorate assesses the medium-term balance and sustainability of public finances, prepares long-term projections, and evaluates fiscal risks. An important part of the Directorate’s activities is its engagement at the EU (participation in the EFC, EWG, EFC-A, and EPC committees and preparatory groups) and in the OECD (WP1, Productivity Forum, and EPC). Tasks also include coordination of European Semester documents, alignment of European strategic documents, and preparation of responses to the European Commission's opinions within the Excessive Deficit Procedure and the Macroeconomic Imbalance Procedure. The Directorate also prepares coordinated standpoints and other materials for the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) and the Eurogroup. We also contribute to the formulation of positions within negotiations on the EU Multiannual Financial Framework, the development of the Economic and Monetary Union and the EU as whole. The Directorate's work is organized into two sectors: the International and Economic Affairs Division and the Research, Analysis and Fiscal Governance Division.
