Science Division

The Science Division provides expert support for the preparation and adoption of key strategic public policy documents in the field of research policy. Among other things, it contributes to the preparation of the Research and Innovation Strategy and action plans for its implementation, and prepares positions in the context of Slovenia’s integration into the European and international research and innovation landscape. The Sector prepares legislation and implementing regulations in the field of scientific research and establishes and develops a system for the comprehensive analysis and monitoring of the state of and developments in research activities, in cooperation with the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS).

The Sector provides professional and technical support for the work of the Slovenian Development Council and the Programme Committee for the Operational Coordination of Research and Innovation Policy. It also develops new instruments to achieve strategic objectives in the field of scientific research and research activities, including science communication and the promotion of science. The Sector actively participates in the implementation of EU framework programmes for research and innovation, including Horizon Europe, as well as in other European initiatives, such as European Partnerships (e.g. ERA-NETs), joint European programming initiatives and similar initiatives.

At the same time, the Sector provides professional and technical support for the conferral of the highest and most prestigious awards and recognitions in the Republic of Slovenia in the fields of scientific research and technology, development activities and innovation, namely the Zois Awards and Recognitions, the Puh Awards and Recognitions, and the Science Ambassador Award.
