The Directorate performs administrative tasks and guides the development of the cultural heritage protection system on the basis of national legislation and international treaties and conventions. In cooperation with other ministries, state authorities, public institutions and civil associations, it prepares strategic solutions and carries out measures for the integrated conservation of heritage. It finances the national public service in the area of cultural heritage protection, archive and library activities, and the restoration and presentation of cultural monuments as well as programmes of non-governmental organisations of the same field. It integrates the protection of cultural heritage into spatial and development planning. It issues cultural protection approvals for research and removal of heritage. It keeps the register of immovable and intangible cultural heritage and draws up ordinances for declaring cultural monuments of national importance.
