The European Affairs and International Cooperation Service carries out tasks in the area of European affairs and international cooperation.

The Service participates in the preparation of positions on EU Multiannual Financial Framework and in the mid-term review of EU Multiannual Financial Framework, including by establishing thematic links with the development priorities set out in strategic development documents.

The Service coordinates the preparation and coordination of positions of the Republic of Slovenia in legislative and non-legislative procedures at the Council of the EU in the areas of Cohesion Policy and the 2030 Agenda; it closely follows the work of other EU institutions and other international institutions in the areas of work of the Ministry; it coordinates the preparation of positions and other documents and provides support for cooperation with EU institutions (the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Committee of Regions, etc.) and EU member states on European affairs.

The Services acts as the lead national authority for the preparation and coordination of positions on legislative and non-legislative proposals in the area of Cohesion Policy among the relevant national authorities; it participates in the meetings organised by the ministry responsible for European affairs and reports on positions in the areas of work of the Ministry. The Service acts as the national coordinator for the implementation and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; it participates in the implementation of international activities, such as monitoring of the South East Europe Strategy 2030, and participates in the strategic and working bodies for cooperation with third countries.
