Nika Dolinar Divjak was born on 21 March 1961 in Kranj. In 1984, she graduated in sociology from the Faculty of Sociology, Political Science and Journalism at the University of Ljubljana.

She completed her traineeship at Sava Kranj's Public Relations Department. In 1986, she joined ŽG-TTG Ljubljana, a company engaged in tourism, transport and hospitality in the railway industry, where, among other responsibilities, she managed the museum train project. In 1992, she started working at the Ministry of Defence as a press officer in the Minister's Office. From 1994 to 1997 she continued her work as press officer at the Social Democratic Party of Slovenia.

From 1997 to 2000 she worked at the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, first as an adviser and then as the Secretary of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) Deputy Group. In 2000, during the Government of Andrej Bajuk, she headed the Office of the Minister of Defence. From 2001 to 2004 she worked as an undersecretary in the SDS Deputy Group in the National Assembly.

From December 2004 to November 2008 she headed the Prime Minister's Office. From December 2008 to February 2012 she served as an adviser to the SDS Deputy Group in the National Assembly. In Janez Janša’s second Government from February 2012 to March 2013, she served as the Head of the Prime Minister’s Office and in Janša’s third Government, which started its term in March 2020, as the Deputy Head of the Prime Minister's Office. From 2022 to 2026, she worked at the National Assembly as the Deputy Secretary of the SDS Deputy Group. Upon the swearing-in of the fourth Government led by Janez Janša, she again assumed the position of Head of the Prime Minister’s Office.
