The Operational Safety Section conducts administrative procedures in the field of nuclear safety, drafts regulations and practical guidelines for the area of nuclear safety, reviews and prepares evaluations of modifications carried out in nuclear facilities, and gathers and analyses operating experience data from national nuclear facilities.

It also operates in specific fields of expertise (in-service inspections, regulation and instrumentation, power supply, fire safety), is involved in producing technical background papers and in developing international conventions and recommendations, handles transposing the regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and of the EU states and the US into the national legal system, participates in and coordinates the work and management of the preparation of programme tasks for the authorised organisations, prepares reports on operational safety, coordinates and prepares annual reports, coordinates the IAEA PRIS (Power Reactor Information System), and gathers and analyses safety indicators.
