The Police are a body within the Ministry of the Interior instrumental for the national security system. They are a highly professional, autonomous and modern organisation providing effective responses to the challenges of modern times and ensuring high levels of security by respecting the law, human dignity, and human rights and freedoms.

The Police are responsible for numerous tasks arising from the Tasks and Powers of the Police Act and the Police Organisation and Work Act, which outline the body’s core mission. In cooperation with individuals and communities as well as with other state bodies, organisations and institutions, the Police are tasked with ensuring the protection of people and property, preventing, discovering and investigating infringements and criminal offences, maintaining public peace and order, controlling the national border, and regulating and overseeing road transport.
