We are a body within the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport. We operate independently and in accordance with the regulations that determine our responsibilities.

It functions independently and autonomously in accordance with the regulations that define its competences. When conducting administrative inspection and minor-offence procedures, the Inspectorate adheres to the regulations related to consumer protection, unfair commercial practices in relation to consumers, crafts, trade, real estate agency services, catering and tourism, copyright and related rights, consumer credit, and the use of the Slovenian language. The wider scope of the Inspectorate’s work also includes the supervision related to the general safety of products, such as electrical equipment, construction products, machinery, personal protective equipment and other technical products.

The Inspectorate carries out not only inspections, but also preventive activities, informing consumers and companies about rights and obligations and thus facilitating easier and lawful operations of all market participants.

The Market Inspectorate carries out its work at its headquarters and in eight regional units located in Celje, Maribor, Kranj, Ljubljana, Murska Sobota, Nova Gorica, Novo Mesto and Postojna. In order to increase efficiency and to provide greater presence of market inspectors in the field, four inspection offices have also been established to operate within the regional units, i.e. in Brežice, Dravograd, Kočevje and Koper.

In the headquarters, the work is divided among three internal organisational units, i.e. the General Inspection Division, the Technical Inspection Division, the General Affairs Service.
