Slovenia Weekly: Targeted and proportionate measures

In these uncertain times, the Government is strengthening the country's resilience by responsible decision-making, mitigating the risk of price shocks, and ensuring a stable energy future.

At its session, the Government adopted a decision to ensure the timely provision of sufficient gas reserves, calling on balancing group leaders to immediately begin concluding gas storage agreements and gas purchase contracts. This will ensure that adequate volumes of stored gas are secured by 1 November. Taking these steps now is a responsible way to prepare for the winter season, which is why it is crucial that the necessary agreements are concluded in good time. These measures improve the national energy security for households, public institutions and the economic sector, as reserves ensure a reliable gas supply, even during periods of peak consumption when the market may be at its most unpredictable.

The Government also adopted a decree to monitor increases in electricity and natural gas prices. Under this decree, suppliers of electricity and gas to specific consumer groups are required to obtain the Government's prior approval before raising prices. This measure primarily aims to protect households, small businesses, and public institutions such as kindergartens, schools, and community health centres. It enables the Government to take targeted and proportionate action to stabilise the broader system, supporting the economy, public services, and citizens' daily lives.
