Slovenia Weekly: The power of knowledge and expertise

On Wednesday, a test train departed from Divača to Koper, marking the long-awaited completion of the second track. In Koper, five years after the start of the main construction works, the completion of construction of the Divača–Koper second track — the largest infrastructure project in the country — was ceremonially marked. Prime Minister Robert Golob described the second track as a story of the power of Slovenian knowledge and expertise. The following day, another important infrastructure milestone was marked with the opening of a 1.8-kilometre connecting road, including the nearly 500-metre Konovo tunnel. This completes works on two sections of the northern branch of the Third Development Axis between Velenje and Slovenj Gradec. "This marks the beginning of fulfilling the aspiration for Koroška to be much closer to central Slovenia," the Prime Minister emphasised.

Slovenia was among the first countries to safely evacuate its citizens from the Middle East. Over the past weekend, the Government organised nine charter flights, bringing 912 Slovenian citizens safely home in the shortest possible time, despite uncertain and constantly changing circumstances. Slovenia also assisted other European countries in the evacuation. A total of 146 foreign nationals from several European countries were also brought to safety on these charter flights, including those from France, Croatia, Italy, Slovakia, Spain, the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
