Slovenia Weekly: A Matter of Principle

Wondering how Slovenia fared as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council? Tune in to a conversation with Ambassador Samuel Žbogar, who has skilfully navigated the complex relations between superpowers within the UN Security Council over the last two years. Reflecting on Slovenia's two-year mandate, a period that can be viewed as one of the most demanding and significant in Slovenian foreign policy, he emphasised the principled nature of Slovenia's positions, as well as its consistent advocacy for international law, the protection of civilians, and responsibility towards the international community. This was particularly notable given that such stances were often neither the easiest nor the most politically convenient.

Meanwhile, in the Slovenian capital this week, the Slovenian team of 37 athletes competing in the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics in February was presented to the media, ten days ahead of the opening ceremony. The team, competing across six disciplines, brings together experienced Olympians and young athletes set to make their Olympic debut. Olympism's core values of friendship, cooperation, and fair play are exactly what the modern world needs, and sport remains a powerful unifying force in Slovenia.
