Slovenia Weekly: Reaching for the stars

During its regional visit this week, the Government listened to the challenges facing the Obalno-kraška region. As part of the visit, the Government transferred land for the construction of a panoramic lift at Markovec and included the renovation of the central surgical unit at Izola General Hospital among projects eligible for state funding. The Government also adopted an ordinance declaring the famous church in Hrastovlje a cultural monument and proclaimed 19 May as Lipizzaner Day. This date holds special historical and cultural significance, as it marks the founding of the Lipica Stud Farm, one of the most recognisable symbols of Slovenian heritage, on 19 May 1580.

Slovenia is also making its mark on the global space industry, promoting science, innovation and international cooperation in space. Slovenia has joined the European Space Agency (ESA) and signed the Artemis Accords. During the visit of one of the most accomplished American astronauts of Slovenian descent, Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, host of the visit, stated that Slovenia is actively developing its space industry, including scientific diplomacy, and is committed to promoting science, innovation, space technology and industry. Sunita Williams' visit also sends a message that Slovenia is confidently embracing a future where knowledge, innovation and international collaboration reach for the stars.
