Slovenia Weekly: Knowledge for Future

“Upon assuming office, we made it very clear that knowledge is among the areas in which we will invest systematically and proactively. During this term, the funds allocated by the state to research, science and innovation have increased from less than EUR 400 million to more than EUR 800 million per year,” the Prime Minister said during his visit to the Podravje region. He added: “I believe that, alongside a clearly defined national identity, it is knowledge that shapes a nation’s future.” The Government has therefore continued to increase funding for science in line with the established plan. As part of the Government’s visit to Podravje, Prime Minister Robert Golob attended the laying of the foundation stone for the Centre of Excellence for Photonic, Micro and Nano Electronic Technologies. This represents one of the first and most important implementation projects under the wider INNOVUM programme of the University of Maribor.

On Wednesday, the European Commission disbursed EUR 440 million to Slovenia on the basis of the fourth payment request under the Recovery and Resilience Facility. “Slovenia has met all milestones and targets linked to the fourth payment request and has therefore received the maximum possible disbursement,” said the Minister of Finance, Klemen Boštjančič, upon the inflow of funds. According to the Commission’s assessment, Slovenia has satisfactorily fulfilled all 27 milestones and targets under the fourth payment request, placing it alongside the most successful EU Member States.
