Slovenia Weekly: Slovenia Strengthens Its European Partnerships

Nebojša Tejić/STA

Over the past week, Slovenia strengthened its role as a reliable and active EU partner through high-level meetings and new agreements. The official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted shared priorities in energy, transport, and technology, with Prime Minister Dr Robert Golob stressing that Europe’s competitiveness depends on innovation, sustainability, and strategic autonomy.

A key achievement was the new Slovenia–France partnership announced at the Port of Koper. The agreement will enhance the port’s role as a major link between Central Europe and the Mediterranean, focusing on intermodal transport, digitalisation, and cutting carbon emissions. This aligns with EU goals for greener, more efficient logistics.

At the MED9 summit in Portorož, Slovenia joined eight Mediterranean EU members to push for greater competitiveness and energy security, as well as faster green and digital transitions. These steps underline Slovenia’s aim to act as a bridge between regions and a constructive force in shaping practical European solutions.
