Slovenia Weekly: A holiday that brings us together

On September 23, Slovenia celebrates Slovenian Sports Day. This symbolically chosen date marks the day when Slovenian athletes won their first two Olympic gold medals after Slovenia gained independence. On this occasion, calls were made to encourage physical activity and promote good health, while senior state officials once again emphasised the unifying role of sport in society. "At a time when the world often seems divided, sport reminds us that there is a universal language of peace and connection. Sport proves that regardless of flag, language or history, everyone belongs to the arena of peace. Slovenia remains committed to this spirit and the values that we live as a nation through sport," wrote the Slovenian Prime Minister in his message.

On Saturday, Slovenia will conduct the first public test of the SI-Alarm mass notification and alert system. The purpose of the test is to ensure that the system functions as intended and to familiarise the public with how push notifications will be received and displayed in the event of major natural and other disasters. By increasing public awareness, speeding up response times and improving coordination between rescue services in affected areas, the system will help reduce risks to people's health and property.
