Slovenia Weekly: Ensuring security

"Slovenia is currently a safe country according to all international rankings. It is our responsibility to keep it this way," stressed Prime Minister Golob before the start of the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government. The only commitment made by Slovenia is to increase its spending on security and defence to two per cent of gross domestic product this year and to three per cent by 2030.

Slovenia maintains its position among the top ten countries in the Global Peace Index (9th place), which reflects long-term regional stability and effective domestic governance. It has a low level of violent crime, minimal political instability and limited military cooperation.

In addition to Slovenia becoming a full member of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) on 21 June, which means that our country has joined one of the most prestigious scientific institutions in the world, we celebrated Statehood Day on 25 June, marking 34 years of independence. In his message, Prime Minister Golob emphasised the importance of having our own country and being able to make our own decisions, adding that Slovenia's strength lies in "that it does not look away when times are the toughest".
