Slovenia Weekly: Increased humanitarian aid

Based on a decision reached at the Government session, Slovenia will contribute EUR 500,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA). With the decision on continued financing of the UNRWA, the Government responded to UN Secretary-General António Guterres’s call for the international community to ensure the continuous operation of this key agency carrying out humanitarian activities in Gaza.

The Government also adopted a resolution on material assistance to the Palestinian civilian population, providing food and shelter equipment in the estimated value of EUR 434,105.

The urgent need to increase humanitarian aid for the Palestinian civilian population, affected by the armed conflict between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas, was also highlighted by Prime Minister Robert Golob and Abdullah II of Jordan at their bilateral meeting held on the margins of the 60th Munich Security Conference at the end of last week.

As a responsible non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the Republic of Slovenia is committed to ensuring aid to civilian populations suffering in military conflicts. This is the first time Slovenia will provide material assistance to the Palestinian civilian population as a response to the military conflicts in Gaza.
