Slovenia Weekly: A choise and a decision

Today, the third Friday in November, we are celebrating Slovenian Food Day. More than one thousand Slovenian nurseries and schools are serving traditional Slovenian breakfasts. The particular emphasis this year is on milk.

In twelve years the project has become crucial for promoting locally produced food and having breakfast every day – the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. Local food travels a short distance and has a higher nutritional value. By buying it we stimulate production in Slovenian farms, the preservation of the countryside and jobs in the food industry. NGOs, with the Slovenian Beekeeping Association at the fore, believe it is time to upgrade the project. They have sent the government a written initiative that the Slovenian Food Day should be extended into a Slovenian Food Week, and the activities also include nursing homes, hospitals and all public institutions.

Voters have decided. Slovenia has its first female president. Nataša Pirc Musar said she would work hard to promote basic human rights, constitutional rights and democracy, and make full efforts to encourage politicians to agree on strategic topics.
