Slovenia Weekly: Turn out the lights!

The European Sustainable Energy Week, which starts on Monday, will take place in the context of Europe's response to high energy and electricity prices.

With all the efforts to mitigate climate changes at a global level, it might also make sense to ask how one can help to make the shift as an individual. 'Buy local, use public transport, turn off the lights' - it might sound like a naïve and repetitive marketing slogan.

But every journey starts with the first step, as the saying goes, and as long as we just stand still, we can't change anything. So -  let's turn out that light already!

    Use of renewable energy sources is increasing. In 2020, 33% of electricity in Slovenia was produced from renewable sources. According to provisional data, electricity production from renewable energy sources in the EU-27 in 2020 exceeded production from fossil fuels for the first time.

    Ministers on preparations for the European Council, the rule of law and the Conference on the Future of Europe

    State Secretary Gašper Dovžan today attended the regular General Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg as Chair. The debate focused on preparations for the October European Council, the state of the rule of law in the Union and the Conference on the Future of Europe. “Today, we discussed a number of issues that directly affect our citizens. As the country holding the Presidency, we are very pleased to have reached the conclusions on the Joint Cyber Unit. In doing so, we have taken an important step forward in ensuring greater cybersecurity and resilience for citizens," underlined State Secretary Dovžan.

Other participants who addressed the audience during this discussion included: OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, EIPA Director-General Marco Ongaro and Slovenian Olympic medallist Petra Majdič.

    Defence ministers rediscuss the launching of European defence
