Slovenia Weekly: Summer full of challenges

pxb

For a week or two, it seemed that the epidemic in Europe and Slovenia was subsiding, but a look at the ECDC country map shows a very different picture. Experts say, there is still time to achieve higher immunisation rates to avoid another shutdown of public life in autumn. Any new closure would not only cause further economic damage, it would also effect major international events in significantly.

Slovenia hosted an informal meeting of environment and climate change EU ministers this week. For the first time, they exchanged views on the vital legislative package "Fit for 55", which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030. Next week, we can expect main focus will be held on the discussion of the second package of national resilience and recovery plans.

The pandemic also has a major impact on the Olympic Games, which start today in Tokyo. They will be held without live spectators, but we will certainly be cheering loudly in front of our screens for our basketball players, led by Luka Doncic, climber Janja Garnbret, cyclists with Pogačar and Roglič and many others.

We hope you'll cheer with us!
