Slovenia Weekly: Reason, solidarity and assistance

"It will be difficult, but we will manage. Because the vast majority of us are aware that, by taking urgent action, we are protecting everything we have as a community. The actual work on the front lines and the tremendous willingness of many to step in and help proves that we understand what is at stake," said the Slovenian Prime Minister in his address to citizens regarding the extension of some measures. But the majority alone is not enough to succeed. “We need all of us, or at least the vast majority. A quorum of reason and solidarity," pointed out the Prime Minister Janez Janša.

The Government decided to extend some measures and lift others. Primary and secondary schools will remain closed next week, switching to online learning; daycare centres remain closed as well. However, some restrictions on the sale and provision of services will be eased.

Slovenia's additional response to growing needs due to the pandemic in developing countries is humanitarian aid, which it provided to the World Food Programme in response to the WFP Global Response to COVID-19 and EUR 50,000 to address humanitarian needs in North Macedonia. Based on the rescheduling of all development and humanitarian projects this year, contributions through international organisations and donations of material assistance, Slovenia has allocated a total of EUR 1.22 million for the response to COVID-19 in developing countries.
