Introduction of personal consignments of plants and products of animal and plant origin

Please note that this website is still under construction and that some of its contents may be incomplete. Thank you for your understanding.

Food of animal origin in the personal luggage of travellers arriving from outside the European Union may give rise to a risk of introduction of animal or human diseases, therefore certain restrictions that are in place for travellers determine what they can bring from outside the European Union in their personal luggage. Plants (fruits, vegetables, potted plants, perennial seedlings, grafts, substrates, sowing material, cut flowers, branches and other parts of plants) and plant products (dried grains or wood) in personal luggage may be the source of introduction of harmful organisms. Therefore, certain plants and plant products are prohibited from being introduced into the EU. However, importation of most of these is only allowed if they are accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate and if, prior to entry and upon notification, they undergo a phytosanitary inspection.
