State Secretary Dobran Božič today received the President of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Regional Council Piero Mauro Zanin during his visit to the Republic of Slovenia.

They discussed the cooperation between Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, expressing mutual interest in continuing the dialogue and singling out the success of the recent 4th meeting of the Slovenia-Friuli-Venezia Giulia Joint Committee held in Koper on 19 November 2019 and co-chaired by Foreign Minister Dr Miro Cerar and the Governor of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region Massimiliano Fedriga. Slovenia appreciates the attention that is given to the Slovenian national community in Italy by the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, stressed State Secretary Božič. They also discussed economic and scientific cooperation.

With regard to migration, they commended the successful cooperation between Slovenia and Italy, and thus also with the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, in tackling irregular migration. The abolition of internal border controls is one of the most concrete achievements of the European Union, which is of particular importance for the residents of border areas of Slovenia and Italy, said State Secretary Božič.
