Ana Roš named World Tourism Organization’s ambassador of gastronomic tourism
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has appointed Slovenian master chef Ana Roš as ambassador of gastronomic tourism.
Upon conferring the title, Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, said: “‘Tourism and Rural Development’ is the motto of the World Tourism Organization for 2020. With her commitment to using local ingredients, Ana Roš is a role model for her contributions to sustainable entrepreneurship.”
Hiša Franko, the restaurant in Kobarid where Ana Roš creates her culinary masterworks, has moved to the NH Eurobuilding hotel in Madrid from 19 November to 7 December 2019, where it will be offering unique culinary experiences to more than 650 guests over the next three weeks. In order to provide the hotel guests with an authentic experience, not only have the entire staff of Hiša Franko moved to Madrid, but top architects have been employed to create the look of the restaurant inside the hotel.
Upon receiving her title, Roš noted: “There are moments in life when you have to accept awards and titles and be proud of them. This title is a kind of guide to what Slovenian gastronomy, or any other similarly ambitious enterprise, can achieve. Achieving these goals requires a great deal of sacrifice, and sometimes you have to ask yourself whether you are on the right path, and when you reach the peaks you have to want even more and work hard to get it. I am proud of and happy with the entire staff of Hiša Franko, and every single one of them deserves this title. For me, the ambassadorship is not an award, but an incentive to remain a role model to everyone who isn’t sure that they can truly succeed at what they want to, and who need a little encouragement to become even better.”
Gastronomy has made a crucial contribution to Slovenia’s recognition around the world, particularly among the global media since Ana Roš became a star on the Netflix show Chef's Table and was named Best Female Chef in 2017.
