Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tone Kajzer has completed an intensive programme during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Slovenia’s activities focused on strengthening political and economic cooperation, international security, human rights, support for Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East and Belarus, developments in the Western Balkans and efforts to secure a more effective multilateral system.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, today met with representatives of the Slovenian community in New York. The meeting took place at the Slovenian Church of St. Cyril in Manhattan.

Prime Minister Janez Janša appeared on two US media outlets, Fox News and Newsmax, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. In the interviews, he spoke about the role of the United Nations, the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, Iran, and relations between Slovenia and the United States.

At the invitation of the United States, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tone Kajzer signed the Joint Statement on AI Opportunity Partnership in New York, linked to the broader Pax Silica initiative. The signing represents a step towards strengthening Slovenia’s cooperation with the US and other trusted partners in the fields of AI and strategic technologies.

Minister Tone Kajzer is in New York to take part in the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, entitled “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All”. The Slovenian delegation is led by Prime Minister Janez Janša, while Minister Kajzer is holding a series of meetings and taking part in events on security, the economy, human rights and the reform of the multilateral system.

State Secretary Dr Stanislav Raščan hosted Lydia Mihalik, Director of the Ohio Department of Development, for a working lunch during her visit to Slovenia. They discussed opportunities to further strengthen economic and technological cooperation between Slovenia and Ohio, as well as ways to foster links between businesses, research institutions and innovation ecosystems.

Ahead of the Bled Strategic Forum, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tone Kajzer met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker for a working breakfast hosted by U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia H.E. Asel Roberts.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland announces a diverse program of cultural events organized by the local Slovenian community this September. Minister for Slovenians Abroad, Suzana Lep Šimenko, will participate as a guest of honor at a literary evening celebrating the 120th Anniversary of the Slovenian Reading Society in Cleveland.

At the invitation of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, State Secretary Stanislav Raščan attended the ministerial conference on the resurgence of political terrorism in Washington. At an informal video conference of EU foreign affairs ministers, Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon warned of the risk of a wider regional conflict and called for immediate de-escalation and restraint. She stressed that the people of Iran must be free to determine their own future.

Slovenia is following with concern reports of the Israeli-U.S. strike on Iran. We call on all parties involved to immediately de-escalate tensions, exercise restraint, and fully respect international law and the UN Charter. Further escalation could have serious consequences for regional and international security.
