Prime Minister Janša meets with Slovenians living in New York

In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of ties between Slovenians at home and abroad. "Every Slovenian is important to our government, regardless of whether they live at home, in a neighbouring country or elsewhere in the world," emphasised the Prime Minister.

He added that considerably more attention would be paid to relations with Slovenians around the globe during this term of office. He stressed the importance of preserving the Slovenian language, culture and identity, and of continuing to forge links between Slovenians around the world and their homeland.

Father Martin Krizolog Cimerman, who has been serving in the Slovenian parish in New York since 1991, also attended the meeting. Over the years, the Slovenian Church of St Cyril has established itself as a key religious, cultural and social hub for the Slovenian community in New York.

In 1916, Slovenian immigrants in New York founded a Slovenian parish. This year, the Slovenian community in New York is celebrating the 110th anniversary of its founding.

The Prime Minister thanked all those working to preserve the Slovenian way of life and traditions in New York, highlighting the importance of continuing this work in the future.

"Warm greetings once again from your homeland, from everyone you know and love there," concluded the Prime Minister.
